2004 A Piece of Paper
The Twin Towers of New York's World Trade Center and a piece of paper are one and the same in that they are both containers. As the towers collapsed, the air became a sea of paper and the streets and avenues were covered with piles of paper that reached up to one's knees. This particular piece of paper billowed down from the heights of the Twin Towers onto the chaos of 911. It appears that even when much sturdier material collapses, paper and the life experiences it bears testament to, can still endure. I like using paper to record my life experiences because paper has expression, as well as the ability to see the immediacy of existence. The exhibition opens up a plane of communication and creates a dynamic exchange of ideas and art.
